PARCELS have shared another glimpse of what’s to come on their hotly anticipated debut album today, in the form of new track BEMYSELF. The track has been released on Kitsuné / Because Music and the full album is expected later this year.
BEMYSELF is the latest offering in an irresistible series of tracks to come from the Berlin-based Australian five piece band. Picking up perfectly where last single TIEDUPRIGHTNOW left us earlier this summer, BEMYSELF is an intriguingly sultry take on their signature modern disco, a slow-burning gem that feels destined to soundtrack the lazy days spent in the sun.
Already having surpassed 50 million streams, sold out sizeable shows worldwide (including a date at London’s Koko, on top of touring with Phoenix), made their US TV debut on Conan and of course famously written tracks with legendry duo Daft Punk, Parcels are a band ascending. Currently putting the finishing touches on their debut album (which is expected to be released later this year), they’ve emerged already as one of the most vibrant and vital new bands around with a truly global and musically-diverse audience.
Louie Swain (synth), Patrick Hetherington (synth), Noah Hill (bass), Anatole Serret (drums) and Jules Crommelin (guitar) are all schoolmates from Byron Bay. 3 years ago, they made the big leap of moving to Berlin, finding in one Europe’s most creative cities the prospects that equalled their ambition. Parcels’ early sound suitably reflects this ability to travel, and transform yourself: following an eclectic thread from The Beach Boys and Chic through to yacht rock heroes like Steely Dan, all the while blending elements of electronica, funk and tirelessly-drilled live musicianship into classic but contemporary pop. It’s in their Berlin exile – and its long history of creative breakthroughs – that the alchemy which makes Parcels so refreshing first crystallised. Theirs is a maniacal taste for perfection when it comes to production, composition and arrangement, with a live show so accomplished that Daft Punk offered to work with them on the spot (the first time the duo have chosen an emerging act to add to their list of collaborators, which also includes the likes of Kanye, The Weeknd and Pharrell).
BEMYSELF is another tantalising glimpse of good times ahead. On that, and so much more, Parcels look set to keep delivering the goods.
Parcels will be playing at Leeds Stylus on November 7th this year.
