Say Owt returns for another season of super spoken word poetry!
Since 2014, Say Owt has been hosting sizzling spoken word slams. The nights are full of excitable energy, hosted by the loveable duo of Henry Raby and Stu Freestone. Poets have a maximum of 3 minutes each to wow an audience with funny, sharp and lively spoken word. Each slam has a winner, someone who the audience have voted their favourite act of the night.
Say Owt has received funding from Arts Council England to support more high energy and high quality nights and bring more spectacular artists to York. We’re committing to proving that performance poetry is a live, raucous, engaging, hilarious, beautiful and heartfelt genre.
Say Owt Slam #20 features very special guest Malaika Kegode. Malaika is a Bristol-based poet published by Burning Eye books. Her poetry is beautifully heartfelt and her performances unmissable. She shares her heart and pulls on yours. Audiences respond to her honesty and openness and she has crowds spellbound by poetry and stage presence.
Malaika will be running a very special writing workshop on the 29th Sept before the slam. Open to anyone of any experience. £5, 3-5pm at York Explore Library in the Garden Room.
Feedback from our audiences:
“I always know when I go to a Say Owt event that I’m going to enjoy it. They’re always excellent. The team put a massive effort into them, and into encouraging people and helping them to develop their writing and performance. They’re a hugely important part of the local poetry and literature scene.”
“Say Owt is the absolute hub of poetry in York.”
“Say Owt Slam makes poetry even cooler than it already was.”
