Local music promoters One For The Road are celebrating ten years of booking events in York this month with a sold out show at The Fulford Arms on 20th October, which features some of the UKs finest underground acoustic musicians including Gaz Brookfield, Ben Marwood and Helen Chambers.
Alongside the event they’re coordinating a food drive to gather supplies for the York Foodbank ahead of the winter months when the demand is likely to be higher. Promoter Craig Slaney explained “I wanted to add a charity aspect to the event which marks ten years since I booked my first gig in York. When I read just how many families were relying on foodbanks up and down the country, organising a food drive seemed like the best option. The show on the 20th October is going to be a busy one, so if everyone that has a ticket brings along a couple of tins of something, or a bag of rice, we’ll have a huge collection of food by the end of the day!”
The event, which begins at 2pm, is completely sold out, however the team at One For The Road will be at The Fulford Arms from midday so that non ticketholders can still stop by with donations. Weather permitting, there will also be a donation point outside in the beer garden throughout the day if people can’t make it at lunchtime.
Slaney also added: “There are quite a few places around York where you can donate to the foodbank. Most of the supermarkets have a collection bin by their front door. If getting to The Fulford Arms isn’t practical, we’d encourage everyone to drop something off elsewhere. What we would like to do though, is get as many donations together in one place so that we can emphasise just how much of a difference people can make if we all pull together.”
