Sonnet Youth is one of Scotland’s best poetry nights. In fact, it could well be one of the best poetry nights in the UK. Sonnet Youth is a literary rave. A poetic party bringing together poets and musicians for a night of no holds barred performances.

Say Owt is York’s most raucous spoken word organisation. Thanks to funding from Arts Council England, Say Owt are bringing Sonnet Youth to the Fulford Arms. The Fulford Arms is home to an incredible and diverse community of artists and Say Owt is especially proud to introduce that scene to the Sonnet Youth crew.

Say Owt are a finalist in the 2018 York Culture Awards for Outstanding Live Performance, combining our energy and Sonnet Youth’s vitality will make for a super-charged event of poetry and music.

Curated and hosted by Glasgow based spoken word artists, Kevin P. Gilday and Cat Hepburn. Between them, Kevin and Cat have appeared on BBC 6 and BBC Scotland, and at the Edinburgh Fringe, Toronto Fringe and Glastonbury Festival. Sonnet Youth reinvents live literature for a new generation, promising an excitable night of spoken word.

The gig will end with a special appearance from York’s finest two-piece band, Dead Drummer. With the sound of super fast acoustic guitar and thundering double-bass, Dead Drummer’s mix of rockabilly and power chords create an unmissable live performance.

Since 2014, Say Owt has run regular poetry events in the form of slams, workshops, scratches, open mics and a variety of other events.  From novices to experienced poets, everyone is welcome on our stages. Plus, all audiences are welcome, whether you’re new to spoken word or not, come along and see what we’re all about!
