They’ve completed a European arena tour as guests to Twenty One Pilots, stormed the main stage at the Reading and Leeds Festivals, and been widely tipped for greatness. Now L.A. power-pop quartet The Regrettes step things up another gear with the news that they’ll release their second album How Do You Love? on August 9th via Warner Records.
How Do You Love? is an album about the most universal of emotions: love. Throughout the record, 18-year-old frontwoman Lydia Night details the rise and fall of a relationship. It charts that first rush of butterflies, through to a destructive break-up, but ultimately finding peace and closure. Night introduces the album with a spoken-word poem before The Regrettes – completed by Genessa Gariano (22, guitar), Brooke Dickson (24, bass) and Drew Thomsen (22, drums) – take listeners on a journey through love’s varying experiences. Whether your experience is romantic, platonic or simply self-love, it proves that you’re never alone.
Night came up with the idea after writing a group of songs about her experiences in various real-life relationships. “I realised that they all fit together and tell a story,” she explains. “It’s about finding bravery through love. Learning and accepting that, yes, you went through a shitty breakup but that’s amazing, because all that means is next time you’re in a relationship, you know so much more about yourself and about what you want.”
The Regrettes first came to attention in 2017 with the release of their debut album Feel Your Feelings, Fool!, which they followed with 2018’s Attention Seeker EP. They’ve played numerous key festivals including Coachella, performed on Conan and Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and featured on the cover of both the L.A. Times and the L.A. Weekly.
They will be touring across the UK in November, with a date at the Key Club in Leeds on November 12th.
