DIRTY FREUD – the latest signing to Modern Sky UK – unveils his debut for the label: Intentions (ft. Szou).
A boundary-pushing, genre-clashing marvel, the track offers a first glimpse of an upcoming 4 track EP Love In The Backwater, set for release this Winter.
Finding touchpoints in the realms of trip-hop, rave, bassline, dub-step and beyond, Dirty Freud fuse myriad sounds together to conjure up compositions at once noirish in nostalgic reference and dystopian in futuristic vision.
Intentions is no exception. A reverberating echo chamber of post-Dub Step staccato stutters, cavernous synthesizer ricochets and hives of clamouring electronics, Dirty Freud casts a dark, dangerous and forebodingly intense soundscape to lose your senses in.
Initially an instrumental, the finished track is notably graced by the unearthly siren-song of guest vocalist: Szou. Having crossed paths with the Manchester-based producer/songwriter on other projects, a gut feeling told Freud that only her unique vocal could take it to the next level. “I had always been a fan of what she was doing” he says, “so when I wrote the instrumental I had to get her involved. And she over delivered.”
Dirty Freud is an essential new electronic artist and producer that you need to know about. In search of new adventures in sound, the alias of Danni Skerritt traded the North of London for the North of England; a move that has both accelerated his career and fast-tracked the recognition his supporters know he has long deserved. From his current base in Sheffield, his intuitive genre-splicing works (coined electrodub by some) have seen him enjoy a status in the shadows as something of a best-kept-secret and a pillar of the UK’s underground electronica scene.
Putting principle into practice, Intentions Ft Szou is an apt foretaste of what to expect from Dirty Freud’s debut for Modern Sky UK.
