York Band Bull Showcase New Song on Compilation Album

Formed By A River have announced that Bull will showcase their new song, Grandma’s Pen, as part of
Volume 2. This chaotic, one-minute stream of consciousness is the latest offering from Bull having released their debut album, Discover Effortless Living, in March 2021. The second volume of this charity compilation continues celebrating unreleased material from an incredible range of artists across the M62. The proceeds from the sales of this volume will be split and donated to both Music Venue Trust and Stagehand.

Bull’s debut album has seen success from across the globe, gaining considerable attention and tipping them as one of the most hotly anticipated bands of 2021. With this jangling and harmony-drenched debut album under their belts, Bull have shown themselves to be one of the most innovative and interesting new bands in the UK. Their clever needling melodies and a sharpened knack for the nuances of their genre are just two of the many things that have gained them high praise from Louder Than War, DIY, Rough Trade, BBC 6 Music, and landed them a record deal with EMI Records.

Talking about the track Bull says: “Grandma’s Pen is a song quite literally about my Grandma’s Pen. It’s a fast poem really. My Grandma was an extremely cool woman so, I’m expressing pride in her. We recorded it live and in about 10 minutes. It’s fun to play live, people can jump about to it. We plan to release an album at some point in the future called An Inch a Minute, a new recording of the song will feature on this album, composed of 20 minute long songs – With Grandma’s Pen I’ll Write Again.”

This new offering from Bull only cements their talents and individualism. It’s quick and sharp. Recorded as part of the sessions for their debut album over a two-year bout of trips to Amsterdam with producer Remko Shouten behind the wheel, it finally has the opportunity to see the light of day.

On the subject of Formed By A River: Volume 2 and Bull, founder Max Lilley says: “I’m incredibly honoured and thrilled to have Bull involved in Volume 2. They have been a staple band in the Yorkshire scene for years. I’m so pleased they’re finally getting the recognition they deserve. Everyone behind the scenes is loving their contribution and we couldn’t be happier to be showcasing their wondrous talents.”

After the success of Volume 1, Formed By A River will be releasing the more ambitious and evolved Volume 2 in June/July with the help of Adam Bairstow (Brooders, Taboo Sessions), Lana Green, and Max Lilley. Song contributions come from artists including Talkboy, The Howl & The Hum, Bull, Fever, and many more.

It boasts never-before-heard songs and versions and promises two live sessions and Q+A’s with Bull and
Fever from legendary venues in their hometowns, The Crescent (York) and The New Adelphi Club (Hull).
