Covid-19 was the catalyst that forced Scott Matthews to scale a musical Everest with his recently released seventh album New Skin. The Ivor Novello award winning songwriter set himself new challenges, digging deeper than before to find new ways to communicate through song and the result is a stunning heartfelt album steeped in gorgeous electronica.
The album also caught the ears of former Cocteau Twins member Simon Raymonde who has invited Matthews to perform at his next Lost Horizons show, Steve Marriott’s daughter Mollie who has given Matthews a slot at this year’s Dear John Lennon tribute concert in September in aid of War Child UK and also Led Zeppelin legend Robert Plant who has invited Matthews to open for his Saving Grace tour at major shows this summer.
Scott will also headline his own UK / European tour later this year in October with which he is excited to debut the tracks from New Skin in a live setting for example new single Our Time. Our Time sums up New Skin perfectly, it’s an instantly affecting emotional song, shrouded in electronics, that starts to snowball epically at around the two-minute mark.
Scott will perform at the Cottingham Folk Festival on August 26th and also at the Brudenell Social Club in Leeds on 12th October and the Upper Chapel in Sheffield on 30th October 2021.
