Interview – Medivh

I recently featured the song Rebirth by the band Medivh in a playlist and round-up review of underground metal songs. I liked the song a lot and wanted to find out more about the band – read on below for more information!

By Jane Howkins

You recently released a single titled Rebirth, which we reviewed. What can you tell us about the track and where can it be purchased?

In a reality that always pushes you to the limit, you have to be strong and rise again every day. Forgetting yesterday’s fears and failures and having the courage to fully live the present. We met a girl recently and we listened to her story. It was a brief meeting, but we kept it in our minds. It’s Marie Jane, a survivor. She’s fragile and strong at the same time: she’s very young but she already knows how tough life is. She’s been tempered by the storm and what she has experienced has made her capable of rising from her own ashes. Every night she dies. Every day she is reborn to fight and feel alive. Marie Jane is magnetic, a force of nature. She attracts you and you can’t help but want to be like her. She feeds on energy; she creates and destroys. Marie Jane is a goddess and we can only stand and stare while she passes through our lives. You can find Rebirth in digital stores online: Spotify, iTunes, Deezer, YouTube; everywhere.

What is the writing and recording process like for you?

The music usually comes first, but sometimes words come out with the notes. It’s a process that’s constantly going on. We have a cute home studio in the Tuscan countryside and a comfortable recording room. We rely on a professional studio in London for the mastering process.

The band started back in 2020. How did you form?

Yep, the genesis of the project dates back to summer 2020, and fast forward to now, we have released an album and two singles. We’re two brothers and a great friend, weaving various musical influences and sound textures to create an innovative sound. Built upon chemistry, you can hear Medivh’s connection on and off the stage is electric.

Have you got any plans to release a full length album or an EP anytime soon?

You can listen our first album everywhere: Where’s The Place I Saw In My Dreams? Part One (3 songs) + Part Two (3 songs).

You’re based in Italy. What is the music scene like in your part of the world?

We come from the Tuscan province. We have cool little pubs here and it’s a fertile ground for music and inspiration. But it’s not like living in a big city. So, we still have a lot of work to do to make our music heard, but this should not frighten us, we’re ready for the challenge.

Do you plan to release any singles at any point in the near future?

Of course! Springtime: new music, new song…

What/who influences you most as artists? What have you been listening to recently?

We listen to every kind of music, it’s all about inspiration and creativity. Main influences include Trent Reznor & Steven Wilson. But we have to say, grunge has played an important role in Medivh’s consciousness: Kurt Cobain, Layne Staley, Chris Cornell… Their suffering really changed our perception of music.

Has the pandemic hindered your work much?

Yes, of course. Tough times for everyone.

Do you have any tour dates lined up? What can people expect from one of your shows and why should people come and see you perform live?

We’re building up our first tour. We love the writing process, playing and singing new songs. We love creating sound textures and original melodies. But ‘live’ is what we love more and do best. We love getting close to people and turning up the volume – the power of live music is unique.

Any last words for the fans?

Be safe and keep your minds open.
