Interview – The Chris Ruben Band

I recently reviewed the new EP by The Chris Ruben Band, titled Take The Ride. The EP isn’t actually out until March 25th this year, but you can get psyched for it by reading the interview below!

By Jane Howkins

You recently announced an EP titled Take The Ride, which we reviewed. What can you tell us about the EP and where can it be purchased? What does the title refer to?

Take The Ride is a group of 4 songs that meld into each other to express one collective message about a very specific point in time. Ultimately, it is a high energy rock mini album with tales of loss, love, lament and so much more. It is for sale on our website www.thechr… as well as 99.9% of all major media outlets. That drops on 25/03/2022.

Has the pandemic hindered your work much?

Honestly the pandemic was an amazing time for writing music. I (Chris) was able to stow myself away and write an awful lot of music. Giving the right amount of time for a project without any rush from any other end is always a blessing.

What is the writing and recording process like for you?

It’s a lot of steps. I’ll write a song and make a full fledged demo with drums, bass, guitar and an elaborate enough vocal arrangement to generate the idea of the song. From that point I’ll send it over to the band and we will get together and make a new arrangement. After getting all that right, we’ll find a studio and get to work. We are very hands on when it comes to the production and oversee most elements of the process, but have recently learned to give a little more in that aspect.

Do you plan to release any singles in the near future?

There will always be singles.

Have you started writing for a new EP or an album?

Yes we have. A new full album is in the works. All the music is written and the recording process has begun. That’s all we can say at this time.

What/who influences you most as artists? What have you been listening to recently?

I feel like it’s different for everyone. Brendan loves San Cisco and Jack Stauber, while Russ is into King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard mixed with 70s jazz fusion, while Nick can always be found listening to The Strokes. The twins have the most eclectic music tastes and we aren’t revealing that at this time. I( Chris) will always love Stevie Wonder, The Beatles, Nirvana, and Tame Impala, and find among all the music I listen to, those are the artists that poke through most for me.

Where are you based? What is the music scene like in your part of the world? Are you influenced by your surroundings?

We are based on Long Island but frequent the NYC music scene as well. Long Island is a loving community of friends who we have had the honour to play with many times. Making friends in the city is a bit fewer and far between, but this is a business and I ain’t no snitch. People want to hear music and we couldn’t be more grateful. The surroundings can be dreary and whilst that can be inspiring, it usually is not.

Do you have any tour dates lined up?

At this time, we do not have any tour dates announced. That information will be released soon.

Any last words for the fans?

Thank you for listening. New music coming always.
