Interview – Hotel California

Hotel California recently released a song titled, This World Wants Peace, with all proceeds being donated to the refugees of Ukraine, a worthy cause indeed! I felt like their story was worth sharing – if you like the track then make sure you buy it and contribute to the cause!

You recently released a song titled This World Wants Peace, which we reviewed. What can you tell us about the song and where can it be purchased? All proceeds for the song are being donated to the Ukraine refugees, a very worthy cause! How did that idea come about?

When the war in Ukraine started I quickly finished my tune, This World Wants Peace, to release it and earn money for the refugees and state my opinion about a war like this. Actually, the song was about Putin and Biden first. I didn’t like both their games. But I never thought Putin would really attack. It’s really a tragedy for the people in Ukraine and Russia.
If you are interested please buy the track here and I will donate the money:

Are you politically minded? Are there any other causes you would like to draw attention to?

I’m not too much politically minded. Most of the time I don’t really get what is happening on a political level. But I must say I was really happy how Europe reacted as a real union when Putin attacked. If I had one wish I would love to end the wars all around the world for a period of time so all the kids could get back home and get something to eat.

Has the pandemic hindered your work much?

It didn’t. I had more time back then and I took the chance to be creative again. I wrote about three new albums in those two years.

What is the writing and recording process like for you?

I usually do it alone. I use my nice sounding Martin guitar and while playing chords and humming melodies, my mind by itself somehow creates the songs or parts of it. I try to get in the ZONE!

It takes me a few days to finish up a new tune but then I try to record it a.s.a.p. because it never gets any better when I wait When I write rock tunes, I do it before the scheduled sessions with Carl and we finish the songs together. I really love writing songs. And I hope for a hit Christmas single one year.

Do you plan to release any more singles in the near future?

There will be a single called Greater Love really soon. A song about the greatness of love between children and their parents. It’s the first single from my next record Family.
My friend Carl Albrecht helped me with this tune. He sings some really great ‘Lenny Kravitz choirs’. It’s a cool tune. At the moment I wait for the mastering to come to an end.

Are there any plans to release an EP or an album anytime soon?

Family will hopefully be released January next year. I want to release about four singles and promote those first. This is my normal procedure. I will send you a copy if you like.

What/who influences you most as an artist? What have you been listening to recently?

I’m influenced mostly by my wife. Ordinary life with all its obstacles gives me creativity.
When I listen to music it’s mostly Tiny Desk Concerts by Bob Boilen. I love the format and the acts are usually great. I would love to live in the USA. In Germany, we don’t really have a folk scene.

Do you have any tour dates lined up? What can people expect from one of your shows and why should people come and see you perform live?

I will play a few shows in Germany in summer. Check them out here:
I usually play with a trio to be able to perform all the cool harmony parts. That is always great fun. My friends Marcel and Alex join me regularly. If you come to a show of mine you need some time. I talk a lot between the tunes. Somehow music makes me do that. But there are songs as well.

Any last words for the fans?

Enjoy at least one good moment every day.
