You recently released a song titled Number One, which we reviewed. What can you tell us about this song and where can it be purchased?

Hello, readers on York Calling this is Zight from Hong Kong! You can listen to Number One FREE on Spotify and Youtube. And of course if you like Number One, you can support it on Apple Music.

The track also features Adam Christopher. How did that collaboration come about?

Adam ( has been covering popular and hit songs on Youtube for years. I’ve always been a big fan of this talented American singer.

When I finished the instrumental mix of Number One, I sent an email and asked like “Adam I’m your big fan and I love your covers. I make music and you sing. Could we possibly collaborate!?” And a few days later he replied and with a big “YES”, plus some minor terms and details. So that’s how it all started.

Has the pandemic hindered your work much?

Quite on the contrary, the pandemic did not hinder me at all. The last 2 years have been a miracle period in my life because I could totally indulge myself in making music in my bedroom studio. Work at home. 100% focus.

What is the writing and recording process like for you?

I was diagnosed with Synesthesia when I was a kid – the doctor said, it transforms my emotions into musical pieces.

For some musicians, composition is the hardest part for them. For me, it is totally effortless. 98% melodies that I hear in my head are utterly ugly and meaningless. But when I hear good melodies, I record it on my phone and put it into a huge folder, categorized by keys, pace and genre. When I start writing a song, I pick and put those melodies together like a puzzle.

Have you started writing for a future EP/album yet?

Yeah, of course. I am working on my next single called City Lights, a song inspired by Ed Sheeran’s Bad Habits. I’ve been working on it for months and actually, you guys can take a glimpse of my production process on my Instagram (

Do you plan to release any more singles in the near future?

Yeah, very near. My next single Work It Harder will be released on 01 July 2022. The song features Chris Willis, quite a renowned (and busy) vocalist in the EDM scene who has collaborated with many big names like David Guetta and LMFAO.

Whereabouts are you based and what is the local music scene like?

I was in London studying EDM music but I fled back to Hong Kong in 2020. The music scene in Hong Kong, what we call Canton-pop is like… the walking dead, not the zombie type but it has stopped evolving for 2 decades.

Children in the city no longer listen to it. My little nephew get so addicted to Chinese singers like Huachenyu, and KPop groups like BTS and Pink Black, because he found Canton-pop music so goddamn mundane.

What/who influences you most as an artist? What have you been listening to recently?

Avicii. He is the eternal legendary.

I’ve been listening to a particular genre of music called slap house recently (yeah, not particular artists). This new trend, this new EDM genre evolved from Brazilian bass a few years back. Since 2021, however, it made its way into mainstream on Spotify and Tiktok. As an EDM producer, it is necessary to get familiar with different genres and the latest trends of the EDM scene.

Do you have any tour dates lined up?

Nope. Still a bedroom producer, making music behind the scenes.

Any last words for the fans?

Stay tuned for my next single Work It Harder collaborating with Chris Willis and Maximals, to be released on 01 July 2022!
