Priscilla Queen of the Desert the musical

Joseph Rowntree Theatre, York

Wed 20 – Sun 24 July

NE Musicals York are in final stages of rehearsals for the phenomenal musical Priscilla Queen of the Desert the musical which arrives at the Joseph Rowntree Theatre in York from 20-24 July.

This non-stop musical is full of amazing dance songs including It’s Raining Men, Hot Stuff, MacArthur Park, I Will Survive plus many more.

Priscilla Queen of the Desert began life as a hit movie starring Terence Stamp, Hugo Weaving and Guy Pearce before making the journey to the stage.

It’s the story of three drag queens (played by Finley Butler, Tom Henshaw and Steve Tearle) who take a journey from Sydney to Alice Springs across the desert in their bus, which they name Priscilla.

Creative Director Steve says: “The journey is full of drama and dance routines but above so many laugh out loud moments. There are costumes that have never been seen before in York and, of course, the star of the show the Priscilla bus, which will literally take your breath away.”

“This show is one of the best I have ever directed. The soundtrack to the musical is one of the very best. Anyone who sees this show will not be disappointed. With a cast of 30 and over 300 costumes, this is not just a bus ride, it’s a two hour rollercoaster of a ride.”

As Priscilla follows three drag queens on an epic bus journey across the Australian Outback the NE Musicals company took a bus trip to get in the mood by hopping on a CitySightseeing open top bus around York ahead of the show’s opening on 20 July.
