EP Review: BAR II – How I Fake It

BAR II are an alt rock/indie band with a deranged and raw rock sound, as the band so lightly put it themselves. In July of this year, they released a two track EP titled How I Fake It, which showcases the band’s sound perfectly, despite the short nature of the EP. I loved it and wanted to share it with the world – see how I got on below!

As previously stated, there are just two tracks here, with the first one being Fake It, which is also the lead single from the EP. I found myself instantly reminded of Biffy Clyro’s early eccentric work, although BAR II certainly have enough here to stand head and shoulders above the rest of their peers. It sounds rather proggy at times, with odd time signatures and a jagged guitar riff providing a unique feel for the listener. Despite this, the song also has quite a melodic sound, especially in terms of the vocals and the falsetto utilised on the chorus.

How I Feel is the second track, opening with what sounds like a cowbell. Despite the distinctive percussion, it’s more of a straight up rock and roll song, complete with groovy guitar and bass melodies, also sounding extremely catchy at times. The song has a proper stomp to it, making you want to get up and dance straight away! The chorus increases the tempo a little, providing a lovely dynamic change.

BAR II are a rock band with a difference, which is certainly something to be praised! If you like your rock a little more experimental than the norm, then How I Fake It should be at the top of your list!
