York band Miles and The Chain Gang play The New Smithy Arms, near Malton on Saturday August 27th at 8.30pm.
The band, who play original songs with an 80s/ Americana vibe, have recently been celebrating after getting400 plays on indie radio for their latest release Love Is Blind. ‘It’s a tongue in cheek song about how men can be daft when it comes to love and sex,’ says Miles, the band’s front man and songwriter. ‘I do love it though. It’s kind of a summer anthem.’
The song has been played on stations around the world, and the band have notched up 50,000views on YouTube. For the gig at The New Smithy Arms, Miles Salter will be joined by band members Steve Purton (drums), Mat Watt (bass) and keyboard player Charlie Daykin, standing in for Daniel Bowater. “I saw Charlie play with (local roots duo) PlumHall recently, and he fell in with them immediately,” says Miles. “So when Daniel couldn’t make it, I knew he was the guy to ask.”
The band have recently been enjoying playing to audiences on a mini tour of Yorkshire, playing Harrogate Blues Bar, The Leopard in Doncaster and Helmsley Arts Centre. “It’s great to get out and meet people,” says Miles. The gig at The New Smithy Arms is at 8pm on Saturday and will feature original songs plus tunes by The Rolling Stones, Joni Mitchell and Bob Dylan.
