Wander is a new EP release from Liverpudlian artist Louie Miles, seeing him delving deep into the world of dreamy alt-pop music. It’s a really unique sounding EP, containing a wealth of different influences, appealing to those into their more experimental pop music.

The EP starts out with the title track, Wander, which sounds beautiful throughout. It starts out slowly, before the percussion is added, as little guitar melodies weave in and out of each other. The percussion has an old school rock and roll vibe, so when its mixed with the guitars, the song takes on a surf rock theme. Louie’s miles sound a little distant, but the vocal effects just make it all sound even more amazing!
This Rain Is Just A Passing Note is an upbeat folk song, containing some lovely acoustic guitar melodies that seem to dance through the music. I found myself reminded of a lot of the acoustic folk-rock music that became popular in the 1960s, with the song also having a chamber pop vibe at times. It’s catchy and will get stuck in your head straight away!
Show The World introduces a percussive beat that wouldn’t be out of place in a military parade, working well with the dreamy guitar motifs and the prominent bass. Louie’s vocals once again take a bit of a backseat here, as the vocal effects push them into the background of the music, although this isn’t a criticism! There’s a lot going on here, so make sure you listen to it a few times over!
The ending note is provided in the form of Breeze, which is another slow song, going back to the folky stylings of the second track. The vocals are at the forefront of the music here, drifting over the guitar melodies in a gorgeous fashion. Some of the guitar lines follow the main vocal line, whereas others provide more of a rhythmic backdrop, showing just how talented Louie’s songwriting truly is!
Louie Miles is an artist doing something very different from the current norm, which is something he definitely should be lauded for! I’m a big fan of the 60s folk/rock movement, and the way the songs on Wander mix that scene with a more dreamy and psychedelic style sounds utterly seamless.
