Interview: Snakedoctors

Snakedoctors are a band doing something a little different, as latest release Friday Night shows. I wanted to find out more about them so I decided to do an interview – see how I got on below!

By Jane Howkins

You recently released a single titled Friday Night which we reviewed. What can you tell us about the song and where can it be purchased?

This one is much different than most of the stuff we do. There are a few music genres we dig. One of them would be new romantic. The early tunes. We had a lot of fun making it. There’s a cool video that goes along with it. The single is available online and countrywide in Poland in Empik music stores as a part of the Four and a Half album.

Has the pandemic hindered your work much?

We tried to benefit – if you could use that word at all – from it by spending as much time in a studio as possible. With all restrictions. That let us have four albums in less than two years including the last double album. Less touring but we managed to play a mini tour last year.

Do you have any plans to release an album or EP in the near future?

Yes. The 5th one is basically recorded – we just have to pick the songs. But this time we gave ourselves some more time for that. So, next year is the year for the new release.

What is the writing and recording process like for you?

Most of the songwriting is done by Wojciech (the guitar player and vocalist). He just enters the studio with the message like – “guys, I have four more new songs”. We record it by having fun and that’s it.

Do you plan to release any more singles anytime soon?

We’ve done it on a regular basis in every 1-2 months. So there’s a line for next releases. Including Wonder Girl, another duet with a talented Ukrainian artist Victory Vizhanska, B Song and many more. Currently we have the single Wuss featuring Polish artist Ada Nike.

You’re based in Poland. What is the local music scene like where you are?

Similar like everywhere else. The big labels build the mainstream and all other ones find their own ways. We don’t see much difference between this and US or UK ones. Independent and indie label bands and artists keep it alive, fresh and real.

Your music has quite an experimental sound. What/who influences you most as an artist? What have you been listening to recently?

We all share a large chunk of similar influences while still maintaining some individual tastes. The main genres would be – grunge, new wave and rock. Recently – as it’s four of us, that would make – Ted Gainey (ex Blue Mountain, Wobitty and Kudzu Kings), Jason Moules (Allusinlove), Alice In Chains, Killing Joke, Rammstein and early Depeche Mode and Human League.

Do you have any plans to tour in the UK?

Not at the moment. We’ve had a few offers to visit other European countries but each time something would come up. I guess in the near future we should.

What can people expect from a Snakedoctors show and why should people come and see you perform live?

It’s always fun. We are four friends doing because it we’re having a good time. We can play our songs which is good to start with (laughs!!!). Basically a lot of fun. Ask those who arrived to one of our shows we did with the metal bands. Yes, it worked out fine for all.

Any last words for the fans?

Support your local acts. Without y’all there’s no real music.
