Interview: Pistols At Dawn

Pistols At Dawn are a band that we’ve featured a few times recently, and for good reason! If you’ve been following their music as we have, then this interview is a must read!

By Jane Howkins

You recently released a song titled The Truth, which we reviewed. What can you tell us about the track?

The sentiment behind the lyrics is that we are all in a big juggling act in our lives and minds with control. Some of us keep it and some of us lose it, but we’re all working on it. Everyone has an internal voice. Sometimes that voice makes us wanna lose control and we all have mechanisms to deal with keeping things in line and not losing control. The reality though, is that so many of us do in fact lose control, especially in these turbulent days – the way in which we all connect helps keep us from losing it. Human connection is everything. Lose it and you’re likely to have a massive storm like in the video.

Has the pandemic hindered your work much?

No, we decided at the beginning of the pandemic to engage every supporter we could and to really ingrain ourselves into music society. We also created 8 videos, an EP and an album during the pandemic.

Do you plan to release any more singles or an album anytime soon?

We released the Ascension album on Friday, August 19th, please check it out! We released the Under The Surface video on Saturday the 20th.

Your music is definitely contained within the hard rock genre. What/who influences you most as artists? What have you been listening to recently?

Our favourite artists and bands are Led Zeppelin, Pantera, Slayer, Guns N Roses, Sevendust, Alice in Chains, Metallica. We all grew up loving these bands and going to their shows, so clearly their influences come out in our music – however we definitely have our own sound that seems to manifest itself with each song we create.

Where are you based and what is your local rock scene like?

Atlanta – major influences for us like Sevendust originated here so it’s definitely a city that creates great rock.

What is the writing and recording process like for Pistols At Dawn?

Simple, we get into a room and let it rip. The songs manifest themselves from different riff ideas from Devin or drum ideas from Adam, generally. It is a very collaborative process.

Do you have any tour dates lined up for the UK?

We just booked a US tour with Alter Bridge and Mammoth WVH and we are now working on a tour in the UK and Europe.

What can people expect from a Pistols At Dawn gig?

An old school, high energy, intense hard rock show without tracks.

Any last words for the fans?

Yes. We released the Ascension album on Friday, August 19th, please check it out! We released the Under The Surface video on Saturday the 20th. We also announced a US Tour with Alter Bridge and Mammoth WVH which can be found on our Facebook page and website. Please listen, share, watch, come see us on tour and let us know what y’all think of it all!
