Today, rising South-London bedroom-pop sensation Joey Maxwell releases his storm of a single Fried; a light-hearted and uplifting guitar-led singalong that lyrically conveys the overarching confusion of ones’ twenty somethings. To the tune of boisterously layered competing instrumental melodies, from walking drumlines to syncopated mellotrons, Maxwell raps and sings a relatable anthem about wanting more out of life. The release of Fried follows Maxwell’s ‘trying not to deep it’ EP era, which saw the singer’s breakout singles ’streetlights and ‘infrared’ create a healthy buzz for the rising star.
Now, with Fried, Maxwell is pushing the boundaries of his experimentations into new territories. Speaking on his inspirations behind the new single Maxwell shares that, “Fried is a feeling”, as he goes on to explain, “I think that I was going through a period where I felt slightly more unhinged than I usually would be, and I realised that it’s kind of more entertaining to be that way. So, I feel like in the context of the song, being Fried describes that emotion of wanting to come a bit loose and just see what happens”.
Joey will be playing his debut headline show at The Courtyard Theatre on September 29th and also supporting Devon around the UK. He will be playing The Fulford Arms in York on September 15th and the Sidney & Matilda in Sheffield on September 18th this month.
