I’m a big fan of the pop-punk movement, so I was very excited to check out Joshua Lloyd’s new EP, Sick When I Wake Up. Pop-punk is having something of a revival of late, so I have great hopes for Joshua and his music – check it out now before he gets big!

You recently released an EP titled Sick When I Wake Up. What can you tell us about the EP?
The EP is a journey. It’ll take you on a ride of emotions, up and down. There are some really catchy guitar riffs and sombre tales.
Where can the EP be purchased and how has the reception been so far?

People really love the EP. Everyone has been saying how much they relate to the songs and how it’s my best work yet.
Do you plan to release any singles anytime soon?
My next single Heartless is out on October 7th.
Do you have any plans to release an album or EP in the near future or is it too soon?
I am currently working on my debut album. Its about 65% recorded and mixed. I’ve still got songs to record and a few bits here and there to go over with a microscope, but it’s coming sooner than you’d think.
Has the pandemic hindered your work much?
It did. Once Covid struck I think I was in the same boat as everyone else really, like wtf is going on, what am I supposed to do now. My partner was home all the time back then so I couldn’t record. So yeah I spent the pandemic on Warzone with the boys.
You’re based in London. What is the local music scene like where you are?
I mean it’s London. London’s always been known for music and the particular calibre of artists that come with living in such a music oriented city. I love London. The lights, the heart of it and the people in it.
Your music is firmly contained within the pop-punk genre. What/who influences you most as an artist? What have you been listening to recently?
I love modsun. MGK, Avril, Greenday & Blink 182. All the classics, but lately I’ve been listening to a lot of Blackbear and Girlfriends too, as well as Sueco and Yungblud.
What is the writing and recording process like for you?
The writing process is easy enough – I pick something or a subject matter and then write until I have enough parts to tell the story I want to.
Recording is the tricky part for me. I’m a perfectionist when it comes to my art so I really have to spend a lot of time getting each take right.
Do you have any plans to tour in the UK?
I do. But not just yet. The album comes first.
