EP Review: TS Music – So Far

I’ve got a huge music taste spanning across multiple genres and styles, but rock music is always the place I come back to. I stumbled across TS Music’s EP So Far recently and found myself enthralled by what I heard. It’s an instrumental EP but it sounds seriously epic!

By Jane Howkins

There are six instrumental songs on So Far, with Cosmic opening up TS Music’s world nicely. The electric guitar is definitely the main focus of the song, although there is a nice rhythm section in the background, as well as an acoustic guitar. The guitar acts almost like a vocal line, sounding melodic yet also heavy at the same time, giving off some serious prog rock vibes!

Faberge is a little mellower, having a slower rhythm and pace. Little guitar arpeggios resonate with the steady drum beat, before the main guitar line appears, drifting through the track in a dreamy way. Make sure you listen to this a few times through, as the flowing guitar in the background sounds really beautiful at times.

Mana is more of a ballad – I can just imagine how cool this would sound with some vocals laid over the music, although it’s still fantastic without. The guitars are haunting at times, especially when the twin guitar licks are mixed together in this melancholic tune. It’s another slower song, but increasing the tempo wouldn’t really do it justice.

Systema Naturae has a faster beat yet still has a steady quality, bringing those flowing acoustic guitars back to the forefront of the song. This track has a really expansive sound, seeming almost mystical at times. The lead guitar has some extra effects on it here, adding to the ethereal quality of the music.

Tree Of Life brings the twin guitars back again, present from near the beginning. The amount of effort that must have gone into this immense track is astounding, particularly in terms of the technicalities. The guitar playing is very skilled, particularly with the solos and twin guitar melodies, showing an artist at the top of their game!

Windsor is the final song on this EP, opening with some clean, fingerpicked guitar melodies, instead of the acoustic ones that appear on most of the other tracks here. The main chord sequence used is amazing, as the lead guitar works its way in and out of the backing music. It’s a great piece of music to round the EP out.

So Far is an incredibly impressive work of art, showing TS Music to be at the very top of his game. If you’re into instrumental music or prog rock, then this is something you have to listen to!
