Kellan is an amazing rapper with a funky sound to his music, as displayed in his song Free Girl. We recently reviewed the Ben Casey remix of the song, which changes the style up a little bit. If you’re into this sort of music, then make sure you check out Kellan’s tunes!

You recently released a song titled Free Girl, which we reviewed. What can you tell us about the song?
At the heart of it, it’s about a girl free of judgement about her sexuality – with a footnote about my relationship with her. It’s a shame we still live in a world that’s so concerned with a body count, when the essence of love is completely different. It’s your body, do what you want with it and love yourself.
How has the reception been so far, and where can Free Girl be purchased?
Free Girl was always a crowd favorite from my EP Push Pull, which was released in 2020. Funky to death. But this remix, done by the talented Ben Casey, took it to a new level of energy. I’ve always loved funk EDM elements, but as a producer, I could never grasp it myself. Ben took it there and the first draft he sent over had me beaming to say the least.
It’s available damn near anywhere to purchase or stream.
The track we reviewed was a remix by Ben Casey. How did that collaboration come about?
I met Ben on an online producer marketplace – similar to UpWork or Fiverr, but specifically for musicians and audio engineers. I hit him up asking if he was interested, and the next day he sent me a remix demo before I even hired him. Suffice to say, I loved it, and hired him on the spot.
Do you plan on releasing any more remixes?
Yes. And you can keep up to date about these by following me on Instagram or Twitter @kellanrad.
Has the pandemic hindered your work much?
Ironically, in the heat of the pandemic, there was literally nothing to do, so I could focus on music as much as possible. The emotional drawbacks were present, as they were for everyone – not to mention, it completely stopped my momentum coming off of a tour in late 2019. Thank god it’s, for the most part, over.
Do you plan to release any more singles in the near future?
I plan on only releasing singles right now. That’s the marketing game. As much as I would love to put out an entire cohesive project, that’s not how it works anymore. Singles on singles on singles.
Your music is based within the EDM pop genre. What/who influences you most as an artist? What have you been listening to recently?
I’ll always be a pop-punk 2000s kid when to comes down to it. Blink-182, Weezer and Fall Out Boy have had a lasting imprint on my influence, so my hooks always come out pretty catchy, whether I like it or not. Over the last few years, however, it’s been a lot of Joey Badass, Run The Jewels, Griz, Big Gigantic, Blackbear and Quin XCII.
Where are you based? What is the music scene like in your part of the world?
Seattle, Washington, USA, Earth. I won’t lie, I want to see more from Seattle’s hip-hop scene. I used to be pretty integrated, then COVID hit, then I started loving working alone. No doubt there’s a ton of talent. Check out Webb Wavvy – he was on my track Annie Adderall, available to stream everywhere now.
Do you have any tour dates lined up for the UK?
Why, you booking? Sign me up lol.
