East Harbor is a new pop group on the scene, having released their EP, The Community, back in October of this year. It consists of six addictively catchy pop songs, each of which has a fantastically funky sense of groove, making you want to get up and start dancing straight away! If that sounds good, then this is for you!

R.W.I.B. (Right Where I Belong) opens things up straight away with a fantastic pop number, mixing together elements of modern pop with a more old school 80s sound. The bass is really prominent, adding an infectious quality to this amazing tune. The synths meld well with the rest of the instrumentation, as the smooth vocals push their way through the tune, sounding incredibly emotive throughout.
Highlight Of My Week introduces some amazing clean guitar riffs into the mix, also adding a rhythmic quality to the tune, which works well with the bass and the drums. The thing that struck me most here was how amazing the production quality is – everything sounds perfectly put together, with so much going on under the surface that you’ll need to listen to it over a few times. This is one of my favourite tracks on the entire EP!
Title track The Community changes things up even further, having an almost ska-style feel, due to the funky rhythm and the little guitar licks that characterise this tune so well. The guitars really stand out here, with different melodies crossing across each other in a stylistic fashion, sounding absolutely perfect. The songwriting is really top notch here, with the brass that appears towards the end making for a lovely surprise.
Lucid starts out with a simple clean guitar melody, sounding much more stripped-down at first than the other tracks. A reggae-esque bass kicks in after a while, raising the tension up as more instruments are added over time. It’s got a much darker sound to it than the previous songs, adding a distinctive vibe to the track. The guitars on the chorus have a really cool quality, unlike anything else I’ve ever heard before!
Miss The Old You changes things, seeming a little more positive than the previous tune. The way East Harbor manage to include so many different sounds, tones and genres in their music sounds truly effortless, and nowhere is it clearer than on this track. The beat has a proper stomp to it, making it extremely difficult not to tap your feet along in time!
Expect is the final track, leaving you wanting for more, long after it’s all over. Again, the ska elements are back, developing them further with this funky indie-pop tune. The chorus repeats a similar refrain, drawing you in the more you listen to it. The guitars are used in a really spectacular fashion, having a slightly eerie vibe as they splice through this track.
At first listen, The Community sounds like the work of a typical pop band. Delve a little deeper into East Harbor’s sound and you’ll something very distinctive, showcasing a band with a multitude of different talents. They’re definitely ones to watch for the future!
