Secret Treehouse are a Nordic indie band who recently released a very fine song titled Lovers In The Streets, which I adored! If you somehow missed the track in our Nordic Artists #2 round-up review, you can also play it at the end of this interview!
By Jane Howkins
You recently released a track titled Lovers In The Streets, which we reviewed. What can you tell us about the song?
The song was written by me (Sveinung), arranged and recorded by the whole band and produced by our dear friend, Stamos Koliousis. It’s about rediscovering old or faded love (you pick), remembering back to a time when you had less obligations and expectations in your life, and suggesting that we try to reignite or recreate this.
How has the reception been for Lovers In The Streets and where can it be purchased?
Very well! We’ve gotten a fair number of nice reviews, some radio, interviews and blog features. Also, the song is streaming really well. The song can be found on all typical streaming platforms.
Do you plan to release any more singles in the near future?
Yes, it’s all in the pipeline. Early next year perhaps?
Are there any plans to release an EP or album?
Yes, there might be a couple of EPs or a full album. But things are in motion.
Has the pandemic hindered your work much?
It has hindered our work, especially our chances of playing shows. It also changed our behavior from a more band collective focus to an individual focus, as we could not really meet up and rehearse or record together for a long time. For me (Sveinung) personally, it also meant kickstarting a solo project (BUKVE).
Your music is firmly placed in the indie rock genre.. What/who influences you most as artists? What have you been listening to recently?
The band has a lot of different influences. I know Anja listens a lot to Maggie Rogers these days.
My biggest influences for writing music would be Jeff Tweedy, Thom Yorke, David Bowie and several more. I’ve been listening to The Smile, Low Roar, Jason Isbell and Wilco, to name a few.
How do you compose your songs? What’s the process like?
Usually, I compose a song idea before presenting it to the band, and then we go on together from there. We usually try to jam together on that song, to see what happens, and at some point, we’ll include our producer Stamos.
Where are you based? What is the local music scene like?
Bergen, Norway. It is picking up pace again here, after the pandemic restrictions and the close down.
Do you have any UK tour dates lined up?
Not at the moment, but we hope to be playing the UK again soon.
Any last words for the fans?
Thanks for listening, more things are coming soon. You are awesome!
