New Music: Darrian Gerard – Powerless

Darrian Gerard is a British Columbia, Canada-based pop singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who has featured on the blog a couple of times before. I first discovered her last summer through her breakup track I’m Not Sorry. Then, more recently I ran the rule over her cathartic track Explosion. Her latest is one that drives ever deeper. It’s called Powerless.

Powerless tells the story of a homeless girl. Overlooked by the world, she has no voice and nowhere to go. Yet, it’s not a tale of misery. In fact, there’s a vibrant pop rock energy about it. Big beats mix with ’80s synths in a darkly Gothic soundscape reminiscent of Halsey.

It’s yet more proof of Darrian’s talent. She’s an incredible songwriter with a voice to die for. If you like pop rock akin to Avril Lavigne and Blink-182 then you’ll find a lot to love in Powerless. You can give it a listen below.
