I recently had the chance to hear a cover of Running Up That Hill by Vlad In Tears, and I really think the German band did the song justice, turning it on its head! I was intrigued to find out a little more about the band, so I decided to have a chat about the track and their future. If you’re a fan of the original, I implore you to check this version out!

You recently released a cover of the Kate Bush song Running Up That Hill, which we reviewed. What can you tell us about the song?
We love that song!I remember when I listened to the version from Placebo while I was watching The Vampire Diaries a long time ago…
I fell in love with the dark touch the band added to that song. That has been actually our idea, we wanted to combine the original version with the one from Placebo, and we worked really hard to make it sound heavy but still melodic and very modern, like our band currently sounds.
How has the reception been for the cover and where can it be purchased?
People were amazed by it! We are very happy to see that we didn’t ruin a beautiful and classic hit! Our cover of Running Up That Hill can be purchased on iTunes, Amazon, on Thalia.de, and Jpc.de, on our website (www.vlaintears.com), and on our label website (www.metalv…le-shop.de)
Why did you decide to cover that track? Are you a fan of Kate Bush? Can we expect any more covers in the future?
We always liked that song, we just found the perfect time to make a cover of it. Kate Bush is a great artist, and listening to that song while watching one of our favorite TV shows Stranger Things has given us the right
motivation to go into the recording studio and make Running Up That Hill our own song.
Do you plan to release any more singles in the near future? Are there any plans to release a full-length album or EP anytime soon?
We are in between options at the moment, we are working on new material but we are also collecting some special versions of old songs. We always try our best to keep our fans entertained and amused.
Your music has quite a heavy rock sound. What/who influences you most as artists?
We feel very connected to bands like Korn, Marilyn Manson, Him, The Cure and most recently, artists like Bring Me The Horizon, Asking Alexandria and Three Days Grace.
What have you been listening to recently?
All our favorite artists like the ones mentioned above, and of course we love to listen to any new artists, to see and understand what’s going on with the music production process. It’s important to stay up to date sometimes.
You’re based in Berlin. What is the local music scene like?
It’s mostly techno music here. Clubs are very popular for hosting big techno parties all over the city. There are still a few smaller clubs that host rock bands though. Of course, there’s the big Mercedes Benz Arena and the Columbia Halle for very big music events.
Do you have any UK tour dates lined up?
We are working on it, we would love to come back to the UK!
Any last words for the fans?
If you like metal and alternative rock with a dark and melancholic touch, we are the band for you.
Stay Vlad!
