Onism E are a New York indie band with a hint of country also found within their music, making for a great mix of overall sounds! I really enjoyed their song It’s Not Over, and wanted to find out a little more about this majestic group. Read on below to see how we got on with our interview with Eline from the band!
By Jane Howkins
You recently released a track titled It’s Not Over, which we reviewed. What can you tell us about the song?
I wrote the lyrics very in ‘the moment.’ Sometimes words spill out, and I have no idea what it is about until I complete the song.
How has the reception been for It’s Not Over, and where can it be purchased?
It has been great! I am glad it made sense to so many. It wasn’t until I completed it that I realised I was writing about a couple of relationships I was struggling with at the time.
Do you plan to release any more singles in the near future?
Yes! We are working on a few right now. I don’t know how we will release them yet, but they are in the works.
Are there any plans to release an EP or album?
Yep. Please hold. Ha.
What is the writing and recording process like for you?
Writing is fun and organic again. With the recent addition of our bass player, Magnus Timbre, writing has become very colourful and spontaneous. We love the vibe we have going on right now.
How did the band form?
It has been an ever-evolving cast of characters, but it’s safe to say that what you see now is what will be moving forward. Raj, Lefty, Mags, and I have become a colorful little family. The dynamic works, and the flow is refreshing and easy. We don’t overthink anything anymore; it just comes to us.
Your music mixes elements of indie rock with the blues. What/who influences you most as artists? What have you been listening to recently?
Our influences include the heavy hitters of the rock/alt-rock world like U2, Radiohead, R.E.M, Bruce Springsteen, Bonnie Raitt, Joan Jett, Liz Phair, Kate Bush, Nirvana, Foo Fighters, No Doubt, Alanis Morisette, PJ Harvey, Bjork, Black Crowes, Sherly Crow...
The women like King Princess, Phoebe Bridgers, Holly Humberstone, Alice Merton, Yeah Yeah Yeahs (Karen o), and K.Flay are killing it right now. It has been very inspiring.
You’re based in New York City. What is the local music scene like?
We are partly out of NYC and Austin/San Antonio. I still spend a lot of time in NYC, but the band lives in Texas. The music scene across the board is wide open but as always, getting in the door takes a lot of work. Nothing can phase you in the indie music scene. The best nights happen when we can build music lineups that help each other be succesful. We are always looking and working to collaborate and organise with other musicians and bands.
Do you have any UK tour dates lined up?
No, not yet, but we want to because our fanbase there has grown. Radio Wigwam has been a great space for us, and we appreciate the support they have given us. They really have helped us build our following.
Any last words for the fans?
Thank you. For sticking with us, spreading the word, and showing us love… Thank you. I can’t say it enough, so thank you!
