Monroe Moon is a husband and wife duo who work together to produce unstoppable music, with latest release ¡GET UP! being the culmination of all their efforts. They’re an amazing band and one that you need to check out if you haven’t already – you can find the track at the end of this interview with Bunny Monroe.

You recently released a track titled ¡GET UP!, which we reviewed. What can you tell us about the song?
I wrote this song in a series of stream of consciousness sit downs sparked by a single event. As the song unfolded, several other events happened that influenced it as well, and it became a means for me to transmute the sadness I was holding for others and the personal pain I carried. A portion of the song was even recorded on the day of a beloved’s funeral, as a means to keep regularity and limit disruption for our youngest children. Our daughter Hero, is even heard on the track as my whispered echo.
How has the reception been for ¡GET UP!, and where can it be purchased?
It’s been positive! It’s a really heavy and personal song so we are very grateful for that. We are on all streaming platforms, please listen! :)
Do you plan to release any more singles in the near future?
We just released a new single in December called Just a Little Bit Longer and we have 2 or 3 more singles coming out over the next few months.
Are there any plans to release an EP or album?
After we get the singles I mentioned above out we will be working on an album for 2024.
What is the writing and recording process like for you?
Writing is a lot of fun. I use meditation, altered states and stream of consciousness when writing so it never feels like work. But there are always a couple holes here and there that need filling in with a level head. We try to keep our creation process as natural as possible and believe in ‘believing’ in each other and ourselves when it comes to ‘what comes to us’.
Recording is also a lot of fun because we take the same attitude. We try not to spend too much time thinking about things. We don’t worry about perfection, we just trust how things feel. (But maybe this is easy because we work with such a wonderful studio.)
Did the pandemic hinder your work much?
It actually propelled us forward. Because we are a married couple our creative flow was not interrupted. And because we don’t perform live very often, we didn’t have a performance schedule to halt.
Instead, we were invited to do a professionally produced livestream that helped keep stage and sound professionals working during the industry shut down. It was an unbelievable experience and a lot of fun. It motivated us and we kept our drive.
Your music has a really unique sound! What/who influences you most as an artist? What have you been listening to recently?
Thank you. That’s a high compliment. We appreciate our individuality.
Theo is greatly influenced by 90s Brit pop/rock, The Smiths, Stone Roses, The Verve, Pulp, Radiohead, Portishead… Me? I’m all over the place!
I listen a lot to classical music, opera and Buddhist chants, but currently I have added Lole Y Manuel, to that rotation, in particular their 1992 album Pasaje Del Agua. It’s wonderful.
Where are you based? What is the local music scene like?
We live in Grand Rapids, MI. Theo hails from Stoke-on-Trent, UK.
Michigan is a music loving place and we have a passionate music scene/community. We are proud to be here and a part of it.
Do you have any UK tour dates lined up?
We are talking with someone about some dates in 2024, but nothing is on the books yet.
