I’m not normally one for dance/EDM music, but after discovering Nickelson’s music, I couldn’t help but be amazed! It’s a little different to what you might normally expect from the genre, but it really makes for fantastic listening overall! How was your 2022?
It went by in a flash!
You recently released a single titled Eldritch Thrumming. What can you tell us about the track? What does the title refer to?
It was released in time for Halloween, it’s inspired by Lovecraftian horror and my friend James Hedges made a really nightmarish video for it!
How has the reception to Eldritch Thrumming been so far, and where can the song be purchased?
All the big online shops, but Bandcamp or Beatport is best! People seem to like its spooky vibe!
Do you plan to release any more singles this year?
Yeah, I have a ton of music ready to release this year with some great remixes!
Are there any plans to release a full-length album or an EP anytime soon?
Maybe an EP, I’m not sure about an album. I’d like to put out a ‘greatest hits’ EP on vinyl at some point.
Did the pandemic hinder your work much?
Definitely the DJing, but in terms of my own music, it probably gave me a little time to focus in on the kind of sounds I wanted to make.
Your music has an EDM sound, yet is rather different from a lot of the other stuff out there at the moment. What/who influences you most as an artist? What have you been listening to recently?
Recently people like Nikola Cruz and Kassian, I also really love the 2022 Confidence Man and Working Mens Club records. I’m always digging for music though, I’m very dangerous on Discogs!
What is the composition process like for you?
I try to write down what I want to make and the elements I’d like to use. Then I make musical sketches and listen to them in different environments and either add to or chip away until I get it where I want. I’ll also send stuff to my good friend who has great ears, good taste and world class monitor speakers for feedback!
Where are you based? What is the music scene like in your part of the world?
Louisville, KY. It’s weird! There’s a lot of talented people here but it can be difficult to get people out for dance music.
Do you have any tour dates lined up for the UK?
Nothing yet, but I’d love to! I’m originally from Blackpool, and looking for any excuse to visit home!
Any last words for the fans?
Lol, gosh, maybe I will think of something to say to them if and when they ever exist!
