Swedish singer-songwriter Olle Borelius is fairly new on the scene, but already he’s managed to build up something of a following. If you missed our review of his song Body of Mine, you can also find it at the end of this interview!
By Jane Howkins
You recently released a single titled Body of Mine. What can you tell us about the track?
I wrote the song in the summer of 2022. The theme of the lyrics derives from a dental adjustment that I have gone through the last couple of years. Being insecure of myself made made me often play a role and not dare to be myself.
How has the reception to Body of Mine been so far, and where can the song be purchased?
It has been really good, surprisingly good. Both friends and people from all over the world seem to appreciate it. Body of Mine was only released digitally and can be streamed or bought on all digital platforms.
Do you plan to release any more singles in the near future?
I have recently started to study and will hopefully become a civil engineer in environment and water in five years. Meanwhile, I write songs as I go along. I have one specific song that I might start to record this winter.
Do you plan to release an EP or an album anytime soon?
It depends on how much spare time I will have while studying.
Did the pandemic hinder your work much?
No, on the contrary, it made me take the step from sitting in my room writing to actually dare to record.
Your music is rather experimental, containing elements from lots of different genres. What/who influences you most as an artist? What have you been listening to recently?
I listen to so much music. Right now it’s mostly Novo Amor, Radiohead, Daughter and Phoebe Bridgers.
What is the writing and recording process like for you?
I start off with finding a mood on the guitar. After that I write the vocals and the lyrics. Then I present it to my father. He and his friends has then helped me with the recording of the three songs that I have released. Depending on who he has worked with, the outcome has differed.
You’re based in Malmo. What is the music scene like in your part of the world?
Like I said, I have moved to Uppsala which is north of Stockholm. But that doesn’t really matter. My musical universe is right in front of me on YouTube and Spotify.
Do you have any tour dates lined up for the UK?
No, unfortunately not.
