A statement from the venue:
“Our creative learning department brings some exciting new events to the Grand Opera House this year. For those who would like to gain access to our newly refurbished theatre, in all its glory, and learn about its history and the many interesting stories associated with the theatre, there are guided tours where you will be able to delve into the magic of theatre and hear about stars such as, Charlie Chaplin, Laurel and Hardy and Morecambe and Wise, that have graced the stage since 1902. Tours are an hour long and are limited to 20 places for each tour.
Relaxed Drama and Movement sessions are available to those aged 55 and over with Creative Learning Producer Kelly. No experience of dance or theatre is needed; the classes provide a fun and relaxed setting to explore your creativity. Monday Movers is a friendly and inclusive space where everybody is welcome. Each session lasts for 1 hour 30 minutes.
There is also a Monday Movers class for 2 – 5-year-olds where the little ones get moving with some playful activities that build confidence, curiosity, and social skills, ending with a slowdown activity and time to say goodbye. Sessions last for one hour. Space is limited in each of these classes to 10 people per session.”
‘Having recently joined the Grand Opera House in this new role as Creative Learning Producer, I am excited to open up the venue beyond our shows where you can learn about our history or explore your creativity in a welcoming space. Theatre and performing arts are a great way to engage in the vibrant culture of York.’ Kelly Culver, Creative Learning Producer
