London-based electronic pop singer songwriter Alice Jayne has featured once before on our blog as part of Jane’s Pride roundup of artists in the LGBT+ scene in December. Now it’s my turn to share some of her music thanks to her latest, The High Priestess.

Though very much a dark and alternative pop artist, Alice hasn’t always identified as such. Previously she was part of the old school rockabilly scene, but it was somewhere she never felt she fully fit in, hence the change of direction. and a redevelopment of her sound over the past few years.
The result is something that feels nicely uncategorisable. It’s upbeat pop but not commercial. Brooding Gothic influences mingle with messages of empowerment to create something that is equally moody and uplifting. Alongside Jane’s share of The Hanged Man last year, it’s clear we’re becoming fans of Alice Jayne here at York Calling. I hope you will be too. You can check out The High Priestess below.
