We’ve featured the fabulous duo Moon and Aries a few times now, and every song I hear from them just sounds better and better! Break the Matrix (Episode Three) is another short EP from the group, featuring three cracking songs that fans of electronic pop and new wave should love. Their sound is a little experimental at times, but this is definitely a good thing in my book!

Illumination Society opens things up nicely, setting the tone for the rest of the EP well. An eerie synth melody plays along with the rhythm section, as a hip-hop style percussive beat runs through the track. The vocals follow the main melody in part, changing slightly as the chorus arrives. The chorus marks a key change in the tune, adding more variety and making it all sound very elative. It’s actually really beautiful at times, making this one of my favourite tunes Moon and Aries has ever produced!
Never For Me uses a slightly different drum style, sounding more Latin-infused than anything else. The piano is more prominent here, playing some lovely chords against the rest of the music. The vocals get a little repetitive at times, repeating the title of the track over and over again at times, but it works surprisingly well, sounding very catchy. The ethereal nature of the tune makes it sound very different from the norm.
From Another Dimension is the final tune on the EP, starting with some gorgeous synths that bubble away in the forefront of the tune. It’s possibly the most mystical sounding song here, building up over time as the music creates evocative pictures in the mind. The vocals are whispered at the start, before they kick in properly. It’s quite haunting to listen to, working its way into your head after a few spins.
Break the Matrix (Episode Three) shows exactly why Moon and Aries are so good. They’re a duo unafraid to try new things, experimenting in a truly positive way. If you like electronic music of any sort, this is for you!
