Genuine Leather is the performing name of Austin, USA-based synth pop singer songwriter Chris Galis. He’s just hit my radar thanks to his new track that takes its influences from the likes of Wilco, Tears for Fears and Tame Impala. It’s called Promises.

Promises is the kind of track that will instantly bring a smile to your face. Its gentle and joyful groove will have you moving, but there’s a depth of emotion to Chris’s vocals and lyrics that give the track a wonderful sense of substance too. As equally inspired by ’70s and ’80s pop, Promises feels like a mix of the two, but reinvented for the 21st century.
Chris started his Genuine Leather journey heartbroken, a little drunk, and messing around with a Yamaha synthesizer. I, for one, am glad he did. I’ll be keeping a close eye out for music from him. I hope you’ll dig his sound too. You can check out Promises below.
