Austin, USA-based lo-fi synth pop singer songwriter Chris Galis performs under the name Genuine Leather and has just caught my attention thanks to his Phil Collins-inspired new track Even If I Could.
By Graeme Smith
Chris composed Even If I Could with a big soaring, emotive chorus in mind, a la Phil Collins. He then stuffed the lyrics full of imagery and storytelling to bring the song’s emotion to life and the result is something to oozes ’80s pop energy while flooding your mind with a bittersweet mix of highs and lows.
Growing up in Texas on a diet of ’90s and ’80s pop has lead to Chris settling into the musical style presented by Genuine Leather. There’s definitely something familiar yet fresh about his music that leaves me craving more. I hope you’ll feel the same after listening to Even If I Could.
