It’s hard to characterise Bonzai Elephant, as their music is so unique – on Hakushu, they mix jazz with indie and electronica to make one ultimate tune.

Hakushu is an instrumental piece of music that was fully improvised in the studio, making it all the more impressive to me. The guitars and synths have an eerie yet cool quality, mixing well with the jazzy percussion, which is also extremely strong. The guitars and bass provide a nice rhythm, with occasional synth melodies breaking off to act almost as a chorus. Different drum styles are used throughout, adding more layers to the overall track. It’s an interesting tune that will constantly keep you guessing the more you listen to it!
