Coupdekat, real name Katherine Reilly, is a British hyperpop artist who has featured on our blog a couple of times already. With an acerbic wit and a penchant for maximalist electronica, she never fails to impress with her unique sound. Her latest is no exception. It’s called BABYTEEF.
By Graeme Smith
BABYTEEF is about growing up too fast, and is a blend of an autobiographical story and the film Babyteeth in which a young girl falls in love with a drug addict. Though the lyrics are gritty and hold up a mirror to a social media obsessed world in which kids are encouraged to look older than they are, the instrumentals are light and joyous, and the track’s chorus will loop through your head for the rest of the day.
The track is the second single release from Coupdekat’s upcoming EP FOR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES ONLY, set for release 22 June. You can give BABYTEEF a listen below.
