Dean Griffin is quite a unique proposition – he creates catchy pop songs with an r&b twist, with latest release Hey Girl being a perfect example of his sound. It’s quite a dreamy track, making it a little different to the stuff you normally hear on the radio. You can check out the stream at the end of this interview if you’ve not listened to it yet!

You released a single titled Hey Girl. What can you tell us about the track?
Hey Girl is a bittersweet love song about damage to hearts whilst forming new relationships, and all the nerves that come with that.
How has the reception to Hey Girl been so far, and where can the song be purchased?
Hey Girl has very quickly become my most popular song, it’s gotten a lot of love and I’m very thankful for it. It’s available anywhere you stream or buy music!
Do you plan to release any more singles in the near future?
Yes! I have a new single called Get Down releasing on June 23rd!
Are there any plans to release an album or EP anytime soon?
Also, yes! I will be releasing my second studio album SHININ’ on July 28th!
You’re also a professional dancer. Do you have any new dance projects on the go?
Yes! Dance has always been such an important part of my life so it will always be present within my art, whether it’s in my music videos or concerts. I’m also working on something new that will be public very soon!
Your music has a soulful pop sound. What/who influences you most as an artist? What have you been listening to recently?
I will always say that Khalid is the reason I make music. I listened to his album, American Teen, when it first came out, also being a teenager at that time. It was crazy to hear music that related to what I was going through growing up, so I definitely owe a lot of it to him. Lately I’ve been listening to a lot of Mac Ayres, Daft Punk and Jungle. And I’m always listening to Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak.
Do you have anything else exciting coming up this year?
Yes! Alongside my album release, I will be headlining my first show at Hotel Ziggy in Los Angeles on July 29th!
Where are you based? How is the local music scene faring at the moment?
I’m based out of Southern California. There’s a lot of cool opportunities for shows out here, whether it’s House Of Blues in Anaheim or Chain Reaction, there’s always something going on and it’s awesome.
Do you have any tour dates lined up for the UK?
I would love to tour out there one day! I’ve performed in the UK in the past and there is such a sick energy out there. I would love to go back.
Any last words for the fans?
All I can really say is thank you so much for listening to my music and giving me an outlet to express myself! Can’t wait for you all to see what we have.
