By Jane Howkins
You’ve recently announced a brand new album, titled The Place We Used To Meet. What can we expect from the record?
We’re really proud of this album! It’s been great fun to make. And I genuinely think it’s the best album we’ve written! There is something for everyone on it.
There has been a four year gap between album releases. What have you been doing in this time?
Well, two of them we were doing the same as everyone else. Sitting on the sofa eating Toblerone, watching Find It Fix It Flog It, whist doing a Zoom quiz!
The other two were writing the album.
What is the writing and recording process like for you?
Quite easy – I’m the drummer, so I’m done after about a week!
A single called The Missing Part has also been announced. What can you tell us about the single?
So we were lucky enough to write this song with our guitarist Nick Tsang, who’s worked and played with some huge acts like Busted, Ed Sheeran, Ting Tings, The Cheeky girls, Zingzillas! All the big hitters. He had come up with this song which was quite SFG like, we worked on it and it’s been going down amazingly at festivals.
Are there any more singles planned for release in the near future?
Yes we have a new single Glow out with the album.
You’re going on tour in November. Are you excited?
50/50! Can’t wait to perform to everyone our new album (out October 13, available for pre order now) and play the old classics!
Not looking forward to living in a cold bus with 10 other people and trying to find a toilet where I don’t have to buy something to get a code at 7am!
What can fans expect from one of your gigs, and why do you think people should come and see you live?
We always try and make our gigs fun and energetic (knees depending) and get a big sing along going with all the hits and a few covers. Think 70’s 80’s royal variety performance, but without the presenters you can’t talk about anymore.
Do you have anything else exciting coming up this year?
Other than the new album (October 13th, pre order now), the new single, the tour and loads of summer dates! I’ve got a two week all inclusive holiday to Corfu!
The band has been going for several decades now. What’s the secret to your longevity?
You could have said years! We’re not that old!!
I’ve always had three key reasons why we still keep going.
Divorce/mortgage/kids!
Any last words for the fans?
You alright!
