Korean superstar violinist Bomsori Kim headlines a day in Scarborough for the Ryedale Festival alongside the Orchestra of Opera North. Having played in renowned venues with the best orchestras from all across the world and being the first Asian woman to sign with Deutsche Grammophon as a star violinist, the Ryedale Festival is extremely excited to have her as an artist-in-residence for 2023. In what is set to be a magical performance at the Church of St-Martin-on-the-Hill at 8pm, Bomsori comes fresh from her performance at the BBC Proms to deliver a passionate performance of Brahms’ Violin Concerto, one of the most stirring works of music for the violin.
Either side of the Concerto, the Orchestra of Opera North takes centre stage conducted by Jonathan Bloxham. The Orchestra enjoys unique status as the only UK ensemble to have a year-round dual role between the concert and opera halls, and they will bring their best of the former role to Scarborough this festival. Opening with the celebrated Overture from Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro, the ensemble closes the night in Scarborough with a rousing rendition of Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4 in F minor. An epic battle with fate with blazing brass fanfares and imbued with some of the composer’s most personal feelings, this performance will fill the beautiful architecture of St-Martin-on-the-Hill with dazzling sound to complete the night.
Monday 24th July, 8pm – Church of St-Martin-on-the-Hill, Scarborough
