Dark Horses is a pop song of sorts, leaning more into alt-pop territory. It starts out slowly, with Joy’s sultry vocals drifting across the dark bassline perfectly. Her vocals are elevated to a higher pitch on the chorus, showing a fantastic vocal range. The dynamics change a little between the verses and choruses, creating lots of variety in this wonderful piece of work.
