It’s been awhile since I shared any new music from Seattle, USA-based Brent Amaker, but he’s responsible for some of the most memorable tracks that have come through these pages. A modern day Johnny Cash, he combines traditional country with the surreal in a way no-one else does. His latest is no exception. Subverting the idea of masculinity, it’s called Take My Heart.

Brent’s latest single is inspired by his former marriage, and speaks of the dichotomy of a partnership on a healing journey. Love can build you back up, but it can also become a restriction and stop you moving forward. This is perfectly captured in the track’s lyrics, that provide understated devastation. Brent’s vocals and sound are as unique as always, and instantly recognisable.
Take My Heart is the first single taken from Brent Amaker & The Rodeo’s upcoming album Philaphobia, their first in ten years, set for release on 26 January next year via Killroom Records. You can check out the video for Take My Heart below.
