York Calling favourite Brent Amaker is back and he’s had just about enough for 2020. His new track Ugly World, recorded with his band The Rodeo, sends off the year in an appropriate fashion.

Brent Amaker is a post-modern Johnny Cash. Fronting two bands, this is the first track of his we’ve shared as Brent Amaker & The Rodeo. Brent Amaker Deathsquad has been all over our blog this year though. I’ve reviewed their videos Hello and You Won’t Find Me, as well as their re-recording of Man in Charge.

The video for Ugly World is a product of 2020, mostly footage shot at home and behind the scenes in the studio. Yet, it’s the song itself that’s the star of the show. Brent’s distinct vocals takes centre stage for the first part before the track swerves into an extensive guitar solo, about as unexpected as the twists and turns of this year.
