Mark Vennis & Different Place are quite a unique act. The Hampshire band perform a style of music that mixes punk, rock and the blues together, making for one amazing package. Their track, Small Town Vampire, really caught my attention, and I wanted to find out more! Check out the track at the end of this interview if you missed it the first time around!

You recently released a new song, titled Small Town Vampire. What can you tell us about the track?
This song is about the big fish in a small pond – hunting after young blood to make them look, if not feel, youthful. We all know the type. A slightly tongue in cheek takedown of small town life that masks a more serious intent about the quiet dramas underneath the surface.
How has the reception to Small Town Vampire been so far, and where can the track be purchased?
The response has been terrific. Really great reviews. You can get it on all platforms.
Do you plan to release any more singles in the near future?
Yes – not sure what yet though.
Are there any plans to release a full length album or EP soon?
Yes, a 7 track album release in late January 24 called Small Town Vampire.
Your music has a rootsy punk sound. What/who are you most influenced by?
The Clash. The Jam. Blur. Brit bands with something to say.
What have you been listening to recently?
I’m terrible I tend to gorge myself on one band at a time so I’m listening a lot to the Libertines at the moment, who I love.
Mark has recently written the soundtrack for the upcoming documentary film, ON RESISTANCE STREET. How did you get involved with the project?
I knew the director and he asked me to do the soundtrack, which I’ve done. It’s a mixture of acoustic stuff and dub reggae. ON RESISTANCE STREET is a great film about music and the fight against racism. And I will be releasing that soundtrack and songs influenced by the film later next year.
Do you have any other side projects on the go?
No, we are working on a full length band album which will hopefully be out later next year. That’s enough to go on with.
Do you have anything else exciting coming up this year?
A holiday.
Do you have any tour dates lined up for the UK?
Not at the moment.
Any last words for the fans?
Get out there, don’t take any shit, be creative, music is our religion.
