It’s pretty rare that we get to hear new music from Greece, so I was very excited to discover Athens-based act, The Magenta. They released a new EP at the end of November titled May Cause Addiction, and it’s got a really unique sound, perfect for rockers who like their music on the more experimental side of things. Find out more below!

You recently released a new EP titled May Cause Addiction. What can you tell us about the record?
Hello hello, York Callers. Oh yes, we did and we are very proud of it. There was a lot of effort, passion and love put into it. We hope you will enjoy it as much as we did.
One favour, please. Listen to it responsibly, cause it May Cause Addiction (laughs).
How has the reception to May Cause Addiction been so far, and where can the track be purchased?
Fans all over the world are excited about it, they have been waiting for our footprint for so long. We thank them so much for being there. They kept asking and asking.
They enjoy the bluesy, easygoing vibes of it. The story-telling behind the lyrics and our retro sound. Here we are, fellows. We collected our pieces and we are back. Just like the good old days. The best is yet to come.
The tracks can be purchased and streamed on the following platforms:
Spotify: open.spotify.com…wjrc4s
Apple Music: music.apple.com/…729441
Amazon: music.amazon.ca/…47K34P
Have you released any singles from the record?
No, we did not. It is just a 5 song album. No need for singles. We want you to have a taste of what is coming next. We want you to take 20 minutes for yourself and get lost in our universe. No shortcuts. As Nina Benet says: “The beauty of the journey is found not in the destination, but in the scenery along the way.”
Are there any plans to release a full-length album soon?
Yep. There is. We are planning for the next release on 8/12/2025. An 8-10 song album will be released. With a more aggressive and melodic approach.
May Cause Addiction has a definitive rock and roll sound. What/who are you most influenced by? What have you been listening to recently?
Well, a big influence was JJ Cale. We have been listening to him on repeat for months. What a style, what a vibe, what a passion. Oh god. We are so jealous of his talent, inspiration and musical approach. Other major influences are the following: Gene Vincent, Jack White, The Who, Tool, Placebo, Nirvana and Oasis.
What is the writing and recording process like?
The writing process is like flirting & cooking. An idea comes, then there is enthusiasm and then we all do our best to put the necessary ingredients in this idea to charm us. We are diving into an intense dance of brain-storming, whimsicality and blending. If all these dances & ingredients reward us with something new, that has its own personality and flavour. Then this is it. We have love and a lover. We have a new song.
The recording process is like the first date. The anxiety and the intensity of the moment, drop our efficiency, charm and attitude by 30%. Hahaha…
You’re from Athens, Greece. What is the local music scene like in your area?
The local rock music scene in Greece is like a steppe. The exact opposite of Greece’s actual weather. No sufficient conditions for us to flourish. This is why we are targeting external audiences such as the UK. Where our music is more easy on the ear.
Do you have anything else exciting coming up this year?
We are planning a big event which is going to be a rock show, with some stand-up comedy shots, followed by a 90s trash party. All these things are going to happen in a schoolyard.
Do you have any tour dates lined up for the UK?
Not yet. We are not very well linked with the UK. This is where your input may transform things. Book us for a couple of gigs here and we are going to reward you with the results. You will experience something you have never had before. We are open to any kind of suggestion. We want the UK indie-rock scene to get to know us better.
Any last words for the fans?
Of course.
Fellows… Please… Listen responsibly… Cause… You know… It… May Cause Addiction!!!!! (laughs)
