I’m a big fan of my classical music, so I was very excited to discover Claudia Balla and her new EP, Winter Tale. It’s a perfect record for this time of year, designed as a Christmas album of sorts. If you’re yet to listen to it, why not take a listen at the end of this interview?

You recently released a new record, titled Winter Tale. What can you tell us about the track?
Winter Tale is an atypical Christmas album. Sonically it’s more introspective, minimalistic and sombre, without the usual chimes and joyfulness that we tend to associate the holiday season with.
How has the reception to Winter Tale been so far, and where can the album be purchased?
The album is available on most digital platforms. The reception has been positive so far and I’m really grateful for that.
Do you plan to release any singles from the album in the near future?
I’ve already released Likely/Si sous saviez and Drive. I’m also planning to release White Bird.
Have you started working on your next album/EP, or is it too early?
Yes, yes, I’m constantly working on new material. I guess it has become an obsession for me.
You’re from Switzerland. What is the local music scene like with you?
The artists in my region are friendly, approachable, supportive, open minded and are up to collaborations. I’m lucky!
Winter Tale mixes elements of classical and folk music with pop. What/who are you most influenced by? What have you
been listening to recently?
I’m a big Swiftie! I’m also fond of classical music and it has been there for me since I was a child. Recently I’ve been listening to Bob Dylan, David Bowie and The Beatles.
Do you have anything else exciting coming up this year?
Christmas!
What do you think is the biggest challenge in the music industry at the moment?
The quantity of music published on a regular basis makes it almost impossible to get noticed. We only have limited time to listen to music or discover new artists. Many people just stick to their favourites or re-listen to ‘old’ records.
Do you have any tour dates lined up for the UK?
Not at the moment but I would love to play in the UK in the near future!
