Synth-pop band EtaCas evoke memories of the 80s with their music, also adding a modern twist into their sound. Their track, Turn up the Colour, really caught my attention and I wanted to find out more! It’s a brilliant piece of music, full of catchy synths and a groovy bassline. Take a listen at the end of this interview!

You recently released a new song, titled Turn up the Colour. What can you tell us about the track?
Turn up the Colour is a song for all the hopeless romantics – when life is grey and normal, and then someone special comes into your world, and turns up the colour to max!
How has the reception to Turn up the Colour been so far, and where can the track be purchased?
For the first single it was great – lots of support from both friends and strangers. The track can be streamed on Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, and Deezer and can be downloaded from iTunes and Amazon.
You also have another song coming out soon, titled Sin Eater. What can you tell us about that track?
Musically, we were both interested in the pulsating, bubbling side of disco blended with New Order-esque guitar lines, combined with a euphoric ‘taking on the world’ style chorus. Rob sent over an initial skeleton that inspired Jefferson to tell the story of falling for a Sin Eater.
Lyrically we’ve always enjoyed writing from other peoples perspectives, as well as setting songs from different periods in history. The track was inspired by a family member who told us about sin eating, which we found fascinating and thought there was enough here for a song. To write about the ritual wasn’t enough, so we wrote from the POV of two sin eaters who are outcast by society and fall in love.
Do you plan to release any more singles in the near future?
Yes! The next track we’re aiming for late Jan/early Feb and here’s an exclusive, it will be called Edit Your Life and will be another lovely slice of synthpop with a lazy California feel!
Are there any plans to release a full length album or an EP soon?
Perhaps in 2024 yes – for now singles are the best way to build our momentum in this early stage of our path.
Your music has a synth-pop sound. What/who are you most influenced by? What have you been listening to recently?
Chromeo, The Foals, Roosevelt, Empire of the Sun.
You’ve been playing together for less than a year! How did the band get started?
We met through mutual friends at the start of 2023, had both come out of other projects and were ready for the next musical adventure…
Do you have anything else exciting coming up in the next few months?
We have an exclusive cover version dropping on TikTok this week, so be sure to follow us there (tiktok.com/@etacasmusic) – we’re planning to do a series of slamming cover versions there where we can flex our sound a little more dancefloor.
Do you have any tour dates lined up for the UK?
Stay tuned!
Any last words for the fans?
Thanks so much for all the support – we look forward to connecting with you at our live shows in the summer!
