Video: Sunflower Summit – Hiding

Chicago, USA-based acoustic folk singer, songwriter and producer Sunflower Summit has featured on this blog a couple of times before, but it’s been awhile since we last shared some of their music to these pages. I’m pleased to say that’s about to change with the release of their new single taking on our inner fear. It’s called Hiding.

By Graeme Smith

Hiding explores the feelings of fear we have when we think about going for something that we really want. I know it’s a feeling to which I can certainly relate, and in the track Sunflower Summit encourages us to swallow that fear and be brave, taking things one small step at a time.

Musically, it’s a gentle number, with a looping acoustic guitar melody accompanying delicate and meditative vocals. Sunflower Summit truly has a way of emoting every word they sing, striking the emotional part of your brain as much as the cerebral one. They do so much with so little, creating a powerful soundscape into which you can get lost.

Having been releasing music since 2019, Sunflower Summit likes to explore themes of mental health with their music in an attempt to destigmatize the conversation. Their next album, On The Way To Okay, is set for release later this year. Exploring the ideas of “okay right now” versus “fully okay”, it promises to be a profound journey.

Sunflower Summit is being praised by press outfits across the world and we’re certainly fans here too. If you didn’t catch any of our previous coverage, now’s the perfect time to be discovering them. They have a unique perspective and aren’t afraid to go deep with their music. 2024 could be a really big moment in their career.
