Prairie are a four-piece emo pop and rock band based in the West Midlands. They’ve just come to my attention through the release of their latest single, and second release from their upcoming debut EP. It’s called Saltwater.
By Graeme Smith
Saltwater follows last month’s release Persistent Game and shows a lighter side of the band’s sound. It hits you with an instant groove while light and charismatic vocals enrapture you, singing lyrics that are rich with imagery and a sense of nostalgia. An explosive chorus provides some beautiful texture. Saltwater is a tidy pop track with a messy, emotional edge.
Prairie are Rhiannon on vocals and rhythm guitar, Lee on lead guitar, Luke on bass and backing vocals and Annabel on drums and backing vocals. Originally formed by Lee with a friend, they were quickly joined by Luke and Rhiannon before Annabel came on board to replace their original drummer.
Saltwater was recorded at Vault Studios in Kidderminster with Chris Dando and Ben FitzHarris. You can give it a listen below.
