New Music: Sophia Stephens – Fervor

American singer songwriter Sophia Stephens first came to my attention last summer through her debut EP Remnantal. Showing a maturity beyond her years, I suggested she “could easily be the next big thing in acoustic pop.”

Her new single adds more weight to the assertion. Fervor is a warning against becoming overly-invested in love and letting your emotions take over. It’s told through an unconventional arrangement, with a moody, offbeat instrumental supporting Sophia’s characterful and expressive vocals. A stripped-back first verse gives way to an expansive, cathartic rock chorus that hits hard before the track finishes big with an explosive crescendo.

Fervor was produced with Trey Vittetoe. Sophia says she has over 300 tracks penned already so I’m looking forward to hearing much more from her. I hope you will be too. You can check out her latest single below.
